Devin Desktop

Cognition's AI editor, formerly Windsurf

What it is

Devin Desktop is the editor that was called Windsurf until June 2026 and now belongs to Cognition. It manages local agents and Devin's cloud agents side by side, with a Kanban view and a separate git worktree per task. Tab completion is unlimited even on the free plan, and Windsurf settings were carried over automatically.

Why it made the cut
  • Local and cloud agents in one editor
  • Unlimited Tab completion even on the free plan
  • Tasks can be handed to Devin in the cloud
