Obsidian

Notes as local Markdown files

What it is

Obsidian is a notes app that stores everything as plain Markdown files in a folder on your own device. Notes are connected through links, shown in a graph view and laid out on a canvas, and Bases turns them into a database shown as a table or Kanban board. More than 1,000 community plugins extend the app, and its own CLI controls it from the terminal.

Why it made the cut
  • Local Markdown files instead of a proprietary database
  • Bases shows notes as a table or Kanban board
  • Over 1,000 community plugins and a CLI
